The Medico-legal Society of Malaysia is delighted to announce its annual national conference this year entitled “The Medico-legal and Medical Ethics Challenges of the New Malaysia”. The conference will be held on 17th &18th April 2019 at the Concorde Hotel, Kuala Lumpur. The conference will be focusing on trending medico-legal issues and will provide an occasion for intellectual discourse as well as high value networking opportunities for all who will be attending.
The conference has a long and distinguished history and is regarded as one of the most prestigious medico-legal events in the country. It brings together Judges, lawyers, medical practitioners, regulators, academicians, medical administrators and other healthcare providers to debate current issues and exchange views and experiences. In the past, speakers have included, HRH Sultan Nazrin Shah, Tan Sri Datuk Seri Panglima Abdul Gani Patail, former Attorney-General of Malaysia, Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Mohd Ismail Merican, former Director-General of Health of Malaysia, Datuk Dr Ronald S McCoy, Nobel prize winner, Tommy Thomas, current Attorney General of Malaysia and Edwin Tong, current Senior Minister of State, Ministry of Law & Ministry of Health of Singapore.
This year’s programme promises to present topics which are challenging the practice of medicine including the growth of Artificial Intelligence and Technology and whole genome sequencing. It will also give the delegates a unique insight into how a medical mediation is conducted. We have also included contemporary legal topics such as healthcare reforms in the criminal justice system.
Finally, for the first time this year, we are inviting submissions for a poster competition and we will be conducting a post-conference half-day forum in the afternoon of 18th April 2019 entitled “Medico-Legal 101”. This session is intended as a basic course, targeted primarily at students, young lawyers and healthcare professionals who would like some initial exposure to medico-legal issues.
I look forward to welcoming you to the conference in person and to your participation.
